Dylan Kuo-centric stills from upcoming C-Drama Love is Brave

As much as Dylan Kuo keeps saying he wants to move away from the rich guy roles, it doesn’t look like he’s been offered much else because guess what he plays in the upcoming c-drama Love is Brave (一場奮不顧身的愛情 / Yi Chang Fen Bu Gu Shen De Ai Qing) – a guy from a rich family in South East Asia called Li Si Han. I’m sure the reason he only gets these type of roles is because he looks damn good in them.

However, it looks like Dylan will only be the second lead in this drama, playing the ex-boyfriend of the female lead character Liang Yuan played by Zhang Jing Chu. Liang Yuan is a poor girl who seems strong on the outside but quite fragile on the inside. (Aren’t they all?) The male lead of this drama is Huang Hai Bo who portrays a playboy-type jewellery designer who changes his ways when he meets Liang Yuan.

Seriously, the only thing I can see this drama being any different from all the other dramas out there is that it’s being filmed in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Certainly a different location! At the end of the day I’d probably skip this one unless…. I don’t know. I’ll think about it. In the meantime, let’s just look at some pretty stills of Dylan.

OK, to make this post slightly more informational there’re more stills of Huang Hai Bo here and here, and some Zhang Jing Chu stills here.

Now that you mention it, I realize all of the roles I’ve seen him in are the rich-guy characters. O_O I think he was in a Mulan period cdrama though? That might count as a non-rich-guy role..

But he was a prince in the Mulan drama!! That’s pretty close…. LOL.

I find Dylan very attractive, but I don’t think I’ve actually seen any romance dramas with him in it. Any recommends?

Looking back at his filmography I realised I’ve only mostly seen his older stuff and a couple of recent ones. Have you seen any of his dramas? I enjoyed – Borrow You Love (but he’s really a supporting character only, and the story is full of cliches), Ia Ia I do (another cliche story but he looked REALLY GOOD in it), Story of Mulan (haven’t finished, but it’s a pretty good story from what I’ve seen), older stuff when his acting was rather bad like The Outsiders 1 & 2 (it’s torturous although the story is good, not really a romance?), White Robe of Love (another torturous drama) and the movie Embrace Your Shadow (another sob-fest) was ok.

Kat, Looks like you may be a Dylan Kuo fan too. I had no idea what he looked like until I watched Mulan in 2015. I only saw his name on headlines before that. FYI, DK did a pretty good job in Mulan, but the plot for Mulan TV series is only ok. A lot of the plot was devoted to bickering ladies and embroidery. The lead girl is decent, but it’s her first major role, so she looks a bit too theatrical at times. She smiles and cries way too much to be a general. The best part of the Mulan plot is the part played by the veteran HK actor, Ray Lui. The idol-drama plot between DK and lead girl was ok but contrived towards the end. Basically DK will prioritize his girl over his own people/tribesmen. 😉

A lot of DK’s dramas from the past ~6 yrs are actually in the romance genre. Borrow Your Love (BYL), Ia Ia I do seem among his better ones. He was the 2nd male lead in “Single Princesses and Blind Dates” (SPBD) with Jimmy Lin. SPBD’s plot is very shallow. The female characters are often irritating, juvenile, or shallow, although they were mildly entertaining at times. DK’s performance in SPBD was not good. I was surprised to see how much worse it seems compared to Mulan or BYL or .. I do.

Thanks for the overview on Mulan. It was just one of those dramas I watched some eps of (I think it was around 15?) then lost the motivation to continue. Sounds like I didn’t miss much. TBH Dylan was never really a great actor, why does he still seem so stiff after all these years? It doesn’t help that he gets typecasted into idol dramas and as he’s getting older… he still hasn’t had that ‘breakthrough’. I kinda wish he will film TW dramas again, there’s a general lack of lead actors there and he might get better roles?
