These past two weeks have been the calm before the storm. I’ve just been keeping up with the weekly dramas and waiting patiently for next week when The Virtuous Queen of Han and then Line Walker air on the week after! It doesn’t help I just spent the last two nights trying to figure out the new Xiao Mi TV box we have now… it’s a really powerful set top box with so much content I will never have time to watch. But then live content from Hong Kong is really lacking, which is what we actually need. More on this in a later post…
WATCHED DRAMAS
Apple in your eye Ep 1 – Good start. Although I probably enjoyed the childhood scenes a lot more than the ‘grown up’ ones. I could felt the pain for Amber An and Blue Lan’s characters growing up under such difficult circumstances. I really liked their childhood interactions. However, I’m just not sure about Blue’s character at the moment. He keeps a lot bottled up inside which is difficult for the audience to connect to. His scenes as a rebellious high school student reminded me of The Outsiders though! LOL. Will have to watch more episodes to form a proper opinion. So far, I’m not loving it but I’m curious enough to see where the story goes.
Pleasantly Surprised / Love Myself or You Eps 11 to 12 – I feel like I’ve half given up on this drama because it’s pretty slow. I really wonder whether there’re enough conflicts to keep this show going for another 10+ episodes. And I kinda feel bad for dissing it because the show is like a cute puppy. Who doesn’t like cute puppies? I’ve got to say though, I was a little disappointed at the supposedly “WHOA HOT” kissing scenes in episode 12. I don’t know, they looked pretty awkward to me. Or at least not so passionate that they ended up injuring (!!!) each other’s lips. Jasper, you are really really cute but acting wise, you need to just ‘lose yourself’.
Shenzhen Roommate Diaries Eps 6 to 7 – Now that is another drama I’m not feeling much for. I’m on the verge of giving up on this entirely. I said I was going to watch 10 episodes and see how it is and I will do that. HAHA.
Summer Fever Eps 1 to 11 – No, I didn’t plan to start another drama! But recently, this started airing on J2 (HK TVB’s 2nd channel) and I just randomly started watching. It’s Cantonese dubbed though… I know I’m such an anti-dubbing person but I get lazy reading subtitles all the time so it’s good to just leave it on and I can do other stuff. I really liked the beginning episodes though, George Hu and Gui Gui are SO CUTE TOGETHER. I’m looking forward to George’s new SETTV daily drama now. I miss the cutiepie. However, the last 2 or 3 episodes the pace slowed down quite a lot and I’m afraid that it might get draggy later on. I read some reviews which said from episode 10 onwards it gets boring. Yikes.
The Way We Were Eps 3 to 4 – These two episodes made me fall in love with this drama. I really look forward to it every week! The interactions between Jia Ni and Wei De are so natural they’re a joy to watch. Plus, even though Rui Rui and Jun Jie appear to be such wholesome, great friends of Jia Ni’s but you know they’re both hiding a secret… maybe for Jun Jie it’s pretty obvious but for Rui Rui… hrm… so does she like Jun Jie or… Jia Ni?!?!?! It’s completely possible right?
There were so many great moments in episode 4 such as knowing more about Jia Ni’s family, Jun Jie’s ‘darker’ side, Wei De trying to shake his ‘playboy’ image… and of course it ended so dramatically!!! In the ep 5 preview, it looks like the story will move to the present time so there’ll be a lot more heartache from this point onwards.
WATCHED VARIETY SHOWS
Chef Nic Eps 3 to 4 – Surprisingly I’ve enjoyed the last two episodes, episode 3 focuses on Nic helping Jaycee deliver a birthday surprise to Jacky Chan. Even though I’m not a fan of Jacky or Jaycee, the hardships they went through just to make the birthday cake were touching. (I am keeping in mind most of it could be just for show.) But it’s solid entertainment.
Episode 4 takes on a more personal note as Nic takes his Dad on a trip to Spain. Does Patrick Tse ever take his glasses off?! LOL. The father/son interactions seem genuine enough but I don’t know why Michelle Chen was there. She just seemed completely out of place.
Ah Sa (Charlene Choi) will be in the next episode!!! It looks like a blast!
