[Upcoming TW Drama] Rose Battle with Tammy Chen, Yao Yuan Hao, Jason Tsou and Nana Lee

After taking a break for over a year, Tammy Chen Yi Rong is back for TVBS’s new drama Rose Battle 哇!陳怡君 aka Wah! Chen Yi Jun (its previous name was ‘My name is Chen Yi Jun’). Filming had just started on the 8th of January with the full cast finally announced. Previously, Cash Chuang and Kingone Wang were linked to this drama but since Kingone just started filming Someone like you (aka Hear Happiness aka 聽見幸福), and Cash… to be honest I’m not too devastated he’s not in the cast anymore so I’m not asking why.

However, – his ‘replacement’, Yao Yuan Hao is not really my cup of tea either. I have not seen his dramas before so I guess I should be more open minded. His previous drama Deja Vu didn’t exactly earn great reviews so hopefully he found himself a better project this time. I’m more excited about the other male lead – Jason Tsou Cheng En because I rather liked him in The Way We Were and during the Christmas holidays, I finally watched Black & White: The Dawn of Justice (the second movie prequel to the popular drama) and wow, crappy movie but that fight scene between Jason and Xiu Jie Kai was totally worth it. Nana Lee Qian Na rounds out the main cast, I’m guessing she’ll be paired up with Jason Tsou? But we’ll have to see.

Since we were talking about Black & White… one of the supporting cast is Hank Wu Zhong Qiang, who was Hulk (the police computer expert) in the drama and movies!

Behind the scenes, there’re some high calibre names attached to this project as well. Director Chou Mei Ling is better known as a movie director. Her previous works include Spider Lilies (starring Rainie Yang and Isabella Leong) and Ripples of Desire (starring Ivy Chen and Michelle Chen). Writer Wu Luo Ying also has an impressive resume including The Hospital, Black & White (two of my favourites!) and Alice in Wonder City. TVBS has reportedly invested over 5 million TWD (approx $156,000 USD) per episode, purchasing new cameras hoping to achieve a movie-like production.

The press release hasn’t revealed much details about the story – it just said ‘feel good drama to motivate young people’. Jason described it as “This drama will talk about many things young people go through, so people will identify with it.” Doesn’t say much right? Way back when (maybe in the middle of last year) some news began to trickle out about this drama, it was supposed to have a political theme. A story about a female politician? I suppose they aren’t going to change that completely right?

Rose Battle is scheduled to air after Boysitter, on the 21st of March.

Jason looks less dorky with the shorter haircut. Elegant drama title but the cast isn’t one to grab my attention. Lol. XD

Need to rewind to his Black & White days to see his cool side. 😉

I’m not really excited over new TW dramas recently… I’m hoping this one will be interesting.

Disappointed about the cast change to Yao Yuan Hao. He will always be known to me as Sonia Sui’s cheating boyfriend. I don’t mind too much about Jason Tsou. If they kept Kingone Wang and Cash Huang it would’ve been a reunion of Happy 300 Days.

Yeah maybe if they had Kingone and Jason that would be good…!

Thanks for that! I noticed that on Viki the title changed to “Youth Power” – which was not what I was expecting with this Rock n’Roll angle!
