Argh, it’s been almost a month already since Leehom Wang held his first ever concert in Sydney, Australia. I’m just glad I WAS THERE! Since I live in Brisbane (hardly any Asian artistes ever comes here!) I have to travel and because of the time/cost, it will have to be someone I really like for me to get off my ass to go there lol.
Since Leehom (along with Jay Chou) are pretty much the people who introduced me to Mando-pop, I couldn’t miss this opportunity!
Tickets are always expensive for Asian concerts in Australia so I thought my $238AUD ticket wouldn’t go very far. But I was surprised at how intimate the venue was and got a decent view for most of the time. Although he didn’t sing my all-time favourites (Ni Bu Zai / You’re not here and Ai Cuo / Wrong Love! Maybe I’m five years too late…), I still enjoyed the concert especially when he demonstrates his talents on the piano, violin and erhu.
Even though I have listened to Leehom’s music for around 7 years now I never really followed his news or interviews. But from the concert, he comes across as very personable, warm and caring towards his fans. The stage set up didn’t allow him much opportunity to shake hands, but there were a lot of audience interaction and he took the time to look around the venue and noticed either the lightboards, or even a banner which was a little further away. Also, when he was in Australia there were heaps of people posting their photos with him on weibo as he was just wandering around Sydney being a tourist! He didn’t turn down requests for photos or autographs, just a nice guy all around!
The night was extra special for one couple as this guy proposed to his girlfriend, during the concert, and Leehom was just standing there… watching and smiling! Luckily I got a good view of this (since the couple sat not far below my section) and it was such a touching moment! Then Leehom sang ‘Forever Love’ to them as well and it was too sweet ๐
Overall, it was a great night and I hope one day I will get to see him in Taipei! Definitely had concert withdrawal symptoms for a few days afterwards… now I just hope he’ll release a proper album soon?
The only video I took – the ending song Kiss Goodbye + Open Fire (็ซๅๅ
