After I got back from holidays I’ve fallen so behind with the currently airing dramas. I think I’m only going to continue watching Rock n’Road and won’t start anything else because I’ve been patiently waiting for You Light Up My Star – which is set to premiere on the 1st June! A few days ago, the story outline was released plus there’re a bunch of teasers as well!
Story Outline
If you’ve kissed someone over a thousand times in seven years, spoke many frivolous sweet words, every time you kiss there are many people who watch and discuss, just like animals in a cage displaying a passionate show. Can you stand it? Would you still have any passion?
Liu Cheng Wei (Joe Cheng) and Zhang Man Ling (Janine Chang) are that type of on screen couple. Every day they play out an old fashioned love story. They’ve collaborated for seven years in a series of dramas* titled “Sweet ___”, including movies and TV shows which achieved box office and ratings success. Their latest work had ran out of ideas, so they’re filming a Sci-fi movie “Sweet Planet”. This is Man Ling and Cheng Wei’s sixth collaboration in the “Sweet” series.
Cheng Wei can’t take it anymore. He wants a complete transformation! He starts to become difficult and won’t work with the crew. He even ran away to hide and won’t see anyone.
Zhang Man Ling is a ‘goddess’, the type everyone loves and worships. Wu Chun Sheng (Qiu Hao Qi) is obsessed with her. He tried to find any opportunity to get close to Man Ling, pretending to be different people just like Leonardo Di Caprio in ‘The Aviator’ to get close to her. In reality, he’s just a lowly stunt double who can’t act. But seeing Cheng Wei not cherishing his goddess Man Ling, he vows for revenge!
Of course Man Ling loves Cheng Wei, everyone thinks so and so does she. Cheng Wei’s change took her by surprise and she doesn’t know what to do. Their joint manager Shou Shou (Yuen Qiu) wants to keep the peace but is increasing becoming out of control as well! Man Ling disguises herself as a paparazzi to discover Cheng Wei seems to have fallen in love with a normal girl, someone mysterious (Summer Meng) who Cheng Wei increasingly relies on.
On the eve of the Golden Horse Awards, Cheng Wei’s out of control behaviour is reaching its peak. They’re nominated for ‘Best Couple’ for the third year in row as well as being the spokespersons for the Golden Horse Awards. Just when everyone’s expectations of them are reaching their peak, the status of their relationship can’t be hidden anymore…
Wu Chun Sheng wants to declare war on Cheng Wei. But he’s just a fan, how can he fight against a superstar? His partners in the extras casting company seem like siblings, supporting him completely but everyone is like their own little star. Are they really willing to lend their ‘star power’ to Chun Sheng to fight against a superstar? And these group of nobodies, what hijinks will they get up to?
When we look up at the night skies, we can always see many stars… but how far away is every star? So, does anyone know how lonely a star is?
Living in the modern era, we’re just like stars. We experience times of sadness and loneliness. We must rely on a kind of love, a person or a memory to keep living… What about you? Have you found the reason for you to shine? If you’ve found it, don’t hesitate. Maybe he/she is the one worthy for you to spend the rest of your life with.
The entertainment industry. Artistes. It is a special occupation… sometimes it’s really like an alien. This is Taiwan’s or maybe Asia’s first drama which describes the many hardships in the entertainment industry. What is hidden behind the beautiful and bright stage? Thank you to many friends from the entertainment industry who provided their stories. Maybe you’ll feel touched watching it because in the story, we can find ourselves…
* Liu Cheng Wei and Zhang Man Ling collaborated in these six projects:
1. Sweet Spring (2006 TV drama)
2. Sweet Summer (2008 TV drama)
3. Sweet Autumn (2010 TV drama)
4. Sweet Battle (2011 movie)
5. Sweet Dance (2013 movie)
6. Sweet Planet (2014 movie)
Sorry the translation is quite rough and so long! I’m curious about this show now. Wow I don’t like having high expectations for a drama (because they tend to fall short of those expectations) but I hope this will be an enjoyable one. Janine looks beautiful (as always) in the stills but I’m surprised Da Ren’s little sister aka Summer Meng is very cute too! Plus there’s Sunny Wang! I hope his acting has improved…hrm LOL.
The theme song is 破曉 (Breaking Dawn) by Fukuyama Masaharu.
I won’t embed all of the teasers here (see playlist) but I like these ones below!
